Big John Stands Above the Rest

22 Jul

For a brewery that was getting a lot slack for “selling out” (not our words), Goose Island’s Big John Imperial Stout delivers beyond any brewery that is clinging to its last dollar and doesn’t dream of making it “big time.”

Black as night and smooth as silk even at 11.5%, this Imperial Stout’s massive amounts of roasted malt (2 Row, Munich, Chocolate, Caramel, Roasted Barley and De-bittered Black) and cacao nibs gives Big John it’s too good to be true chocolate flavor and aroma. Even with all that malt, you still get slight hints of the lone Columbus hops that give this beer its 60 IBUs.

Our bottle was pretty fresh but if you get your hands on one, feel free to cellar it up to 5 years.
