Winner of a Gold at the 2011 Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition and an Honorable Mention Silver at the 2011 California State Fair, Redlands, California’s Hangar 24 Brewery’s Orange Wheat is a great beer for those hot afternoons or cool down evenings.
Using oranges they purchase from the Old Grove Orange company (affiliate of the non-profit Inland Orange Conservancy) whose main objectives is to save the local orange trees from disappearing, spread the word about their local citrus growing heritage, and to feed the hungry with the unutilized oranges, this beer has a lot going for it.
It pours a honey orange color with a little white head and the citrus is all over the aroma, mouthfeel, taste and finish. The wheat is a strong backbone that compliments the mighty oranges but this one really is all about the local goodness. We loved it and look forward to our next one in the sun.
