We love Southern Tier so the chance to have one of their beers is always VERY high on our list of things to do. We’ve been known to trade for bottles, purchase and send across the country many bottles and some might claim to have seen us suck *every* drop out of a bottle before. We’re not saying if that’s true or not BUT we will say that Unearthly is one of the best beers we have ever had. It’s a perfect 1o in our book in the DIPA category.
It pours a brownish color with hints of red with a beautiful cream colored head on top. First smells are all about the hop aromas. We’re talking about citrus, apples, oranges along with vanilla and other sweet smelling aromas.
For a Double IPA, this one is very well balanced. While the hops are definitely there the malt (2 Row, Carapils, Red Wheat) is equally as strong. Neither are fighting to be all over your tongue more than the other. We also loved that the carbonation is low, so big sips without a burn was easy to do. Sadly, it also made us finish our bottle quicker than we wanted to.
As we said before, we loved this beer and if you have a bottle or two around, feel free to send them our way!
They also make a Oak Aged version which we have sitting here… Pint Opinion to follow soon.
