Portland’s Upright Brewing’s #7 is their most aromatic beer which makes me guess that the others are truly very light as this one, while having a strong smell, is nothing compared to what we’ve seen recently from many West Coast brewers. That being said, the Saison yeast does permeates with hints of fruitiness and light spicy notes. On draft ours left a very dry mouthfeel with leftover bitterness that was faint at best. The Magnum, Tettnager, Hallertauer and Liberty hops are there but not as strong on the aroma or bitterness sides.
Our first taste of Upright has left us scratching our heads, but we haven’t given up on what could possibly be another great Portland brewery.
